1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued?

Diversity is being composed of many different elements and qualities. Races are very diverse and special groups you belong to make up diversity. Everyone is not the same we all have many different things that make up who we are. I believe diversity is valued because without it, this world would be very boring and everyone would be the same.

2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society?

Ethnocentrism is when one group or race feel they are superior to everyone else. Ethnocentrism can lead us to make premature judgments. It is often cited as the main cause of many social problems, such as wars, oppression and slavery, among others. It also leads to pride and vanity. Although having pride is not a bad thing, too much can cause many problems.

3. Define emigration and immigration.

Immigration means to enter another country and take up permanent residency somewhere you are not native to and establish yourself there within. Where emigration mean you are leaving your permanent residence to take up residency elsewhere regardless if you are native or not. Example you emigrate from Canada to the United States.

4. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?

We have identified people into four major groups. Race, Ethnicity, Religion, and Gender. These are just a few of the major groups we identify with but there are plenty more other groups we can break people into like sexual preference (Straight, Gay, Bisexual) or by marital status. Single, married, divorced, or widowed.

5. Why do people label and group other people?

I think its human nature to categorize/label people. At a young age we are taught to group things by size, shape, gender, even, odd. The list goes on and carries into our everyday life. We learn to group financial wealth, poor or rich. Democrat or republican. Fruit or vegetable. There is so many
