Case 1: Kenny Kenny is a young teen that experiences uncontrollable bodily and facial movements. When he was younger it was just fits of frequent blinking, lip puckering, and facial grimacing but as he got older Kenny would growl and snort. Kenny also showed other behaviors that weren’t normal such as spinning around excessively and was not able to sit for a long period of time. We learn that Kenny has Tourette’s syndrome. it’s a result of abnormalities in the development of the brain and the nervous system, and includes affecting the frontal lobes and grey area matter. Imbalances in the brain chemicals such asdopamine and noradrenalin, can result in TS. Dopamine and noradrenalin are used to control movement and impulses, can balance is need for normal functions. Most kids grow out of tourette’s syndrome and its becomes more manageable as it fades away.

Case 3: Jim Jim is a 70 year old man that experiences uncontrollable hand and shaking after taking a new antihypertensive drug. After his doctor switched the drug, but shortly after he continued to have subtle shoulder movement. His doctor said it was just the stress of his job and he took a vacation. After he come back his handwriting became almost illegible. Jim said it was due to stress and that it has run in his family. Jim has Parkinson’s disease. In the very deep parts of the brain, there is a collection of nerve cells that help control movement, known as the basal ganglia; this is affected with Parkinson’s disease. In a person with Parkinson's disease, these nerve cells are damaged and do not work as well as they should. If the nerve cells were not damaged the human would function normally. Also if someone has Parkinson’s disease their dopamine levels are low.
