I walked in, a room full of mirrors and barres and every girl had on a pink Taking Steps shirt. The dance instructor gave me a welcoming hug. She told all of us in the dance studio to introduce ourselves. After everyone introduced themselves, she talked to us about what we would be doing and learning throughout the next few weeks. Taking Steps is a program that encourages late elementary school and middle school girls in self- development through dance. Meeting other girls around my age, meeting my first dance instructor, the first time I stepped into a dance studio… I realized it was a new beginning.
From the first time I stepped into a dance studio, I knew it was something I wanted to do for a very long time. Overtime, dance meant everything to me. As soon as I got out of school, I always went to a dance class. I used to dance about six days a week. Everything about dance, the isolations, the movements, and your emotion through the dance piece, all fascinated me. Every season there was a dance performance somewhere, I always went. Dance became a huge part of me by the end of middle school. It meant so much to me that I started off going to a performing arts high school and majored in dance.
Dancing is not only a sport, it’s an art. Dancing is a way of communicating. You can express yourself through dance. While you’re dancing you can let out anything. Through dance, you can tell a story. This was the best of dance. When I danced, I took classes ranging from Ballet to
