Though it is common to speak English when dealing with business in Dhaka, we recommend you learn simple phrases in the native language Bangla, to make your everyday life a little easier. You should get familiar with the routes of the Rickshaws operating in the area you will be living in since this will most likely be your best bet for transportation. Be aware of the monsoonal season in Dhaka since this could be very important when having to travel around outside. Be aware of your surroundings in Dhaka. Do not travel alone at night.
