Critical evaluation of T Mobile business story
I chose a business article I found on Yahoo in the business news and finance section. The article was done by C-NET and I found the reporter to be very thorough in pointing out important consumer information. T Mobile’s initial release was obviously put out by their corporation to increase customer flow and sales. They geared this release at a time when the cell phone laws and controversy over, do you really own your phone, could be most advantageous for the corporation. The opening line was written to make you think they were dropping long term contracts and phone purchase subsidies for the customers benefit. In reality the corporation has an idea where things are headed and took the gamble to be a leader in that area. Good practice for the corporation but what about the consumer? The C-NET reporter was probably more consumer oriented because they pointed out that even though the company was dropping 2 year contracts; if you choose to make a down payment and payments to own your phone the payment contract goes for 2 years.
The next thing I noticed was the information T Mobile released on their monthly plans. The plans were listed as straight amounts and basics as to what you get. Once again the C-NET reporter came to the aid of the consumer asking the educated questions we often overlook until they victimize us. The reporter brought up the fact that even though the plan rates appeared to beat the prices of the corporations’ biggest competitors, we as consumers have to do an apples to apples comparison. The reporter went on to say how difficult this is with all the different underlying elements of a plan. This reporter even said “The carriers want you to be confused so you do not know if you are getting the best deal or not”. The reporter then gave the consumer food for thought pointing out if you are doing a comparison consider the fact that T Mobile does not offer
