Effective communication can affect relationships in an adult social care setting between individuals using the service, their carers, colleagues and other practitioners, as it is essential in building a meaningful relationship between the residents and the carers as it can help build trust and respect. Effective communication is fundamental in regards to the resident’s needs and preferences and to ensure they are met. There are many ways of finding out the communication and language needs of an individual, for example; you could check the residents care plan this is an effective way at establishing the needs of the individual because every little detail about the resident is written in there, so you could get information on how and what technique you could use to communicate with them.
Another way could be to talk to them and to see whether they respond to you, this is also another effective way at establishing the needs of an individual because if they respond to you, you could ask them how they wish others communicate with them. And this could help with talking to them and actually getting a reply back as it’s something they prefer.
The last way could be to ask family members, this is an effective way at establishing the needs of the individual because they have been with their family for a long time as these are the best people in their lives that know them a lot and we could get help from the family to know how we could communicate with that individual.
