Different types of communication
In this task I will write about four different communication used in health care centres. I will give a definition for each of the communication and I will also describe the purpose of each type of communication, what it is used for and why it is important? Communication is something everyone would use in their everyday life. There are different methods to communicate with each other, you could either verbally communicate with someone, which is talking to someone with words. There is written communication this is when you write what you want to say on paper. There is also computerised communication which is texting, surfing on the internet either from your computer, laptop, mobile phone or any other method that includes a device. As not everyone is able to communicate because they might be disabled, deaf and mute, or blind there a special needs communication for the ones who have difficulties. In care setting all these communication types are being used in everyday life. Now I’m going to write about each one of the communication that I have listed in more details.
A good example of how communication actually happens and what the theory behind it is given by Michael Argyle. The theory that Argyle came up with is called the communication Cycle. Behind argyles theory he believed that interpersonal communication was like learning how to drive, these are skill that can be developed. This includes building and understanding of listening, observing and reflecting on what another person may try to say, communicate. The first stage of the communication cycle would be:
1. Ideas occur- this is when you get an idea that you may want to communicate.
2. Message coded- you decide that you may want to communicate your thought and put your thoughts into words or signs.
3. Message sent- You may want to communicate your thought in a way you feel comfortable.
4. Message received- the other person sees you communicate your message and hears or sees you communicate it.
5. Message decoded- the person you have shown your thoughts by communicating has to now try to decode the message.
6. Message understood- The person you have communicated your thought will try to response on what they have understood, it depends they may have understood it fully and give a good response or they didn’t understand it and their response isn’t what you had expected it to be.
Verbal communication
Verbal communication is also known as oral communication. This is when you speak to someone verbally, so that means talking to someone in person, directly. This is done by using your mouth to talk and that doesn’t include written communication or any other kind of communication. This type of communication is most commonly used these days, this will include talking to your friends in schools or talking to your mum in the morning etc... However while you talk to someone verbally you also move your body e.g. hand movements, smiles, and face impressions. This type of communication has advantages and disadvantages, now I’m going to list some of the advantages:
Advantages:
There is a quick response back when you are having a conversation with someone.
It saves time, when you want to give a message or a response to something the message is communicated immediately without wasting any time.
It saves money, as you would not have to use any type of media communication like phones, computers, laptops etc... This will avoid you for wasting any money.
It’s more effective.
Increase in Productivity and Efficiency
Disadvantages:
One of the disadvantages would be that there is lack of proof.
Not Suitable for Future Reference
Not Suitable in Case of Distance
It can cause an argument very quickly and then this could get into a physical fight.
There could be aggressive tone used.
Written communication
Another type of communication would be written communication. This type of communication is when you write down something
