United States Military When I was little I always said I wanted to be in the army so I could fly planes. Unbeknownst to me, I was wrong. I actually wanted to be in a different branch in the United States Military. After time and understanding I realized that just like many things in our world, the United States Military has categories and under each one there is someone willing to stake their life on what I get to enjoy every day which is freedom. There’s the army, the navy, the marines, the coast guard, and the one I wanted to be in so desperately, the air force. Each of the branches means a lot to us Americans. Without each branch we couldn’t live as freely as we do now. The United States Army is by far the largest and the oldest branch of the military. It was officially formed back in 1775 disbanded and formed again in 1784 right after the Revolutionary war. The primary mission of the army is "to fight and win our Nation’s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and spectrum of conflict in support of combatant commanders. The Army is the dominant land power. The Army generally moves in to an area, secures it, and instills order and values before it leaves. It also guards U.S. installations and properties throughout the world. This is one branch that is the most historical.
The Unites States Navy is the second oldest of all the branches. This branch was formed in 1775 as well but instead of July 1775 it was formed October of the same year. The mission of this branch is to protect and defend the right of the United States and our allies to move freely on the oceans and to protect our country against her enemies. The navy is the branch that handles all of the water needs of this country, freedom wise that is. The navy also has its own little baby. The Coast Guard is the branch that was created in 1790 and during war time they deploy with the navy. The Coast Guard’s main mission is to carry out three basic roles maritime safety, maritime security, and maritime stewardship. These two branches operate with each other to protect us from another angle. When people think of the marines, most people think of the movie Jarhead. Some people think it’s the scariest and hardest part of being the marines. Well they’re right. The United States Marine Corps was created on November 10, 1775. This
