Honor Code Reflection Paper The Honor Code focuses on the development of the mind, body, and spirit of each
Individual by explaining and outlining the morals and ethics that God and the school: Oral
Roberts University expect the students to understand and follow. The Honor Code too many
People would be just a set of rules that one is required to sign and follow when entering the
University, but to those who truly understand the Honor Code it is more than just another set of
Rules to follow, it is the guide by which we as Christians live our lives according to God’s word. Many times the people who choose to be dishonest and have no morals tend to depend on
Others to meet their emotional and spiritual needs rather than seeking and trusting in God to
Fulfill those needs. By doing this, most times a person will find themselves caught in the ways of
The world and turning their backs towards God. As Christians we strive to rise above these
Afflictions and put our full faith and trust in God’s plan for our lives and act accordingly. The
Honor Code acts as a guide to which we can refer, to acquire a fresh understanding of Christ’s
Moral expectations for His children, when faced with these obstacles. This is the purpose of Oral
Roberts University’s Honor Code. Point five of the Honor Code focuses on training as well as guiding the student to resist
And refrain from any and all immoral and illegal actions that may present themselves. One key
Issue that most Christians are faced and tempted with in today’s society is taking part in
Unscriptural sexual actions. Two such actions stated by the Honor Code are homosexuality and
Taking part in sexual intercourse with an individual who is not your spouse. Leviticus 18:22
Says, “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a women; that is detestable.” In America today
Homosexuality is increasingly being pushed into mainstream society affectively changing the
Conservative view point that once stood on the topic. Instead of being viewed as Leviticus 18:22 states, Americans are beginning to view homosexuality as an acceptable and natural state of being in an individual. The honor code reminds us that this world view of homosexuality is against God’s will and that we are to maintain a relationship as ordained by God’s word, that of only one man and one woman. Along the lines of maintaining a relationship between one man and one woman lies the concept or law of refraining from sexual relations with one of whom is not your spouse by means of traditional marriage. Another major issue among people in America today is premarital sex, especially among teenagers. By taking part in premarital sex one is damaging their body, more specifically their mind and soul. 1 Corinthians 6:19 states, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you received from God?” Therefore when taking part in premarital sex one is destroying their temple, a gift given to them by God. For God to reside in our temple –body- we must keep it pure and engaging in premarital sexual acts damages that purity and in turn destroys our temple. The
Honor Code acknowledges this verse and addressed it by asking Oral Roberts University students to refrain from unscriptural sexual acts. Among the many ethical dilemmas that I have faced in my life the greatest of them has been the struggle to reject the ways of this world as a result of the many morals and ethics that are continually disregarded, in overwhelmingly high numbers, in our culture.
