As Head of the Brookside Treatment Center we are honored to have been blessed with the grant that we have received. Brookside Treatment Center is a center that provides treatment for the Addiction mostly in the cases of Prescription Pill Abuse. In 2010, enough prescription painkillers were prescribed to medicate every American adult every 4 hours for 1 month. (Jones, 2014:1). This Newfonded Trend in our community is affecting millions of Americans. This is not the type of addiction that people would readily notice, in many household in America there are individuals that can retell moments in their childhood where they would see a family member or even themselves taking someone else medicine or seeing someone taking too much of the medicine. No one back then would have said anything it was not identified as a ADDICTION it would just be a secret that was kept in the family and hidden not public. 6.1 Million people have used them non-medically in the past month .5 percent of the United States is the world's population and consumes 75 percent of the world's prescription drug (Jones, 2014;1) .In Today’s society however there are too many cases of abuse in this nature for it to ignored any longer. That’s why we at Brookside Health with the support of the grant that we have received we hired a counselor that bases there treatment plan using the cognitive theory to help provide insight into how to help better treatment of our patients. In 2010, enough prescription painkillers were prescribed to medicate every American adult every 4 hours for 1 month.. The number of prescription medicine abusers in 2010 was 8.76 million. Most abused prescription drugs fall under 3 categories: (Jones, 2014 :1)
• Painkillers: 5.1 million
• Tranquilizers: 2.2 million
• Stimulants: 1.1 million.
At the Brookside Treatment Center we at not just another treatment center we are not going to give you more drugs on top of drugs just to get a check. We believe that under every addiction there is a story and we would like to hear it., No one just get a addiction overnight there is a history behind them there was a problem that was never solved or talked about and then it was just taking the pills once a week just to feel better to everyday to 3 times a day now a bad addiction. By breaking the cycle of negative thinking using the cognitive theory as a backbone, our therapists can help our patients learn new behaviors to replace those that led to and perpetuated their addiction (Ranch, 2014; 2). In our group and one on one session using cognitive therapy we treat the initial problem which in most cases that treats the addiction in most cases. For many people, low self-esteem is one of the primary factors underlying their addiction. Our group sessions or our one on one sessions can help our patients improve their self-image. As their self-esteem blossoms, they will no longer desire nor feel the need to engage in behaviors that are self-destructive. Our daily activities will provide reinforcing a person’s self-worth will help them start to believe that they truly deserve a better life than the one they currently have. In order to overcome an addiction, it’s essential to have a strong desire to improve their personal circumstances. (Ranch, 2014; 2) Also when you have overcame your addiction the therapy sessions can be tapered off gradually as an individual’s condition improves. For example in the beginning of your treatment a patient might have weekly or bi-weekly sessions, and then reduce these to every other week. During the final stages of treatment, a patient might be seen only once a month just to make sure they’re not relapsing. When the patient has successfully overcome the addiction, therapy can be canceled completely. (Ranch,
