“The Office for Civil Rights enforces the HIPAA Privacy Rule, which protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information; the HIPAA Security Rule, which sets national standards for the security of electronic protected health information.” Practically, this law acts as a form of security, confidentiality, and conceals the identity of the clients. This laws serves to protect and disclose any private information given from each patient. This law also helps social workers manage client information. The specific areas that the HIPAA act affected were the patients and more importantly both social workers. For the client, it affect the people who were exposed and especially the grandmother of the three children that Betty was working with. It takes away trust that the grandmother had with the social worker. It also affected the social workers because they were summoned to the JSBMHA directors’ office. The odds of them potentially getting written up are likely or a slap on the wrist will occur. Although Betty cares a lot about these clients of her, it is still a breach of contract when you are exposing any information about the client. In all actuality, we all make mistakes. However, the HIPAA law enforces to keep all information between the client the social worker. The director should discuss with both social workers that this is an invasion of the
