Canadian Hockey

I am writing to you about Canadian hockey, so that you can learn about Canada’s favourite winter sport and to let you know all about our passion for hockey. Hockey in Canada originally started with six teams in a league called the NHL (National Hockey League). The original six teams of the NHL were the Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. All of these teams are still playing right now in the NHL. The original six teams are teams that were the first to ever play in the NHL back when the league was just getting started in 1917. Two out of the six teams were in the league when it first started in 1917, the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Boston Bruins joined the NHL in 1924 and the Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers joined in 1926. There are many different teams in the NHL now; some have been around longer than other. This creates rivalries between teams. There are some rivalries in the NHL some are big rivalries and some are small. The team’s fans don’t like each other usually because the cities are close by like Toronto and Montreal or the teams have played each other for a long time like Montreal and Boston. One smaller rivalry is the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs along with the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins. The NHL has a lot of great rivalries. One of them is the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins because they are two of the original six teams so they have played each other a lot over the years. You can’t forget the most famous rivalry the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. The Leafs and Habs are the original rivalry because they were the first two teams in the NHL. The fans of each team have wanted to beat each other for a number of years. The Leafs and Habs have one of the best rivalries in the whole NHL
