The business I would love to open up is a CrossFit gym. CrossFit is a type of training that is constantly varied and incorporates everything from rowing to gymnastics to Olympic Lifts (basically anything but machines). The purpose of CrossFit is to enhance competence in random physical challenges, just like what we must face in real life. Also, to push each level of athlete to excel beyond their physical and mental limitations, gain strength, lose fat and be fitter than you have ever been.

My business would be profitable because everyone wants to be in the best shape and feel the best that they can. This service would absolutely be able to do that for anyone willing to put in the effort. The glory of CrossFit is that any age and skill level is welcome; every exercise and workout is adjustable to fit you. One of the most important aspects of CrossFit that I love, is that results are based on your performance, not on how you look or how much you weigh. Scales and mirrors would not be seen in my gym because if you do the work and eat well, your body will become healthy. You don’t need a scale to tell you that.

Two major obstacles that I could see getting in the way of launching my business would be start up costs, and promoting. The cost of the equipment needed for all the different workouts is very high. I would need a good amount of money upfront to be able to buy everything needed to get the workouts done. That would include a good space to make the gym, weights, bars, and the list goes on. Getting the word out is another potential set back. It can be a challenge trying to find ways to promote your new business. Getting a website put together, advertising at other local business, networking with people you already know, and competing with other CrossFit gyms in the area.

There are two companies in my area that have shown success with opening up CrossFit gyms. The first is Balcones CrossFit Gym, Pflugerville, TX. This business just opened up a few months ago and is my personal CrossFit gym. Tanner (the owner) has done a fantastic job jumpstarting his business. He has a great website and has gained clients that help him promote. In fact a married couple that just started working out with us are
