Healthcare business is growing fast. Jackson Health System is an internationally recognized medical system. It has three hospitals, seven clinics, a rehabilitation center, nursing home, a psychiatric hospital among others. It is the public hospital for the Miami-Dade County area, and it has a Level 1 Trauma Unit which make it unique. Back on July 1, 2014, Medicaid patients are now obligated to sign in with a Manage care company. Therefore, the payments that Jackson used to receive on the weekly basis from Medicaid are now delayed by the HMO companies. They usually take longer to pay and also request additional information to make sure that the amount bill matches the services provided to the patient.
Based on the information provided above, Jackson Health System has to do new arrangements in order to survive in this competitive market with other hospitals in the area. Jackson is a large health system that provides services not offered by other hospitals. However, the facilities are not in the most optimal conditions. The executives realized that they needed to do something in order to attract more patients to the health system. They have been adding new services, remodeling the baby delivery areas, adding physician offices, utilize grant money appropriately for indigent patients amount other services. With the purpose of expanding the hospital services, Jackson had to consider different details.
First, they needed focus on a defined purpose. Many meetings were done to identify the problems. Director, managers, and supervisors, were called to obtain a better perception of the existing issues. The mission and vision was almost lost even though states that "Mission: To build the health of the community by providing a single, high standard of quality care for the residents of Miami-Dade County, and the Vision states "Our strategic vision is to be a nationally and internationally recognized, world-class academic medical system and to be the provider of choice for quality care." Jackson Health System (n.d). In accordance with the mission and vision, it is important to pursue high and professional quality of care for the residents of the area.
In addition, it was important to follow a detailed research before deciding to move with the new changes to attract the new market. This detail will guarantee that the health system is not only making the appropriate financial decision but also is providing the correct medical care to their patients.
The research was designed and planned to put more patients on those hospitals. Numerous aspects were taken into consideration such as locations, HMO contract negotiations to obtain a better reimbursement, updated equipment, and screening the appropriate employees for specialized areas. Lack of planning on any of these aspects can be a delay in bring patients with better insurance reimbursements to compensate the lost created by Medicaid.
Another important aspect is ethical standards. "To be effective in a business environment, traditional ethical standards need to be translated into language which business persons can speak comfortably."(Brook & Hoch, 1997). It is crucial to maintaining high ethical standards in this facilities. This will make a difference, and the patient trust will be gain easily. The county approved 2 million for the construction of a new transplant building. Safety needs to be address ensuring that all the building inspections are passed; handicap patients have the appropriate access and that all the licenses are obtained to open this new area. Also, Medical Record needs to maintain a strict system where the patient's information can be locked and with restricted access.
Every single project has flaws and limitations. When opening a new facility or expanding new services, Jackson will be able to encounter difficulties. Everyone's intention is to keep the appropriate flow. However,
