1. Explain the functions of assessment in learning and development (1a)
To work alongside awarding body criteria to assess students ability of competency.

To plan the assessment process and work with the student to achieve their goals, understand any areas that need to be worked on and understand their level of understanding of what is required of them.

To give constructive feedback from a variety of sources and ensure that the positive feedback is given where due, and feedback that may be construed as negative be explained in a manner in which the student can learn and grow from.

Assessment is to ensure that the student is competent in their skills and has the ability to meet national occupational standards.

Allow for students with special educational needs or disabilities to extend exam times or be assessed in other ways if needed.

Use a variety of methods to assess the student such as Written tests, assignments, client feedback, consultation forms and oral questioning etc.

2. Define the following four key concepts and principles of assessment (1b)
Validity – Ensure the assessment method is Valid for the type of assessment being carried out and understand what it is you are assessing and the correct criteria.

Authenticity That the work is that of the students. And any course information that seems to be questionable, another method of assessment is used.

Reliability Is the student ready for assessment and do they have all the tools they need for correct assessment. Is the assessment timed and all criteria able to be met.

Sufficiency Supplying relevant criteria without making the student provide more than they need too.

3. Explain three responsibilities of an assessor (1c)
1. To assist the student through the qualification by setting realistic and achievable goals to attain. This may be dates by which assignments or assessments should be done.
2. To ensure that the student has everything they need as well as the ability to undertake an assessment.
3. To liaise with other centre staff such as IV’s & tutors to ensure a smooth assessment process is maintained. And to identify the needs of learners such as SEN needs.

4. Outline three regulatory requirements that are relevant to assessment.(1d)
