Southern food is so deep rooted in the region of it’s birth. Southern cooking spands many different flavor profiles, from Cajun foods of Louisiana to BBQ in Texas. They all meld together for some of the best food the United States has to offer. It is also known as comfort food. The Original title of “Soul Food” comes from African American culture which always states that the cuisine is nourishing to the soul as well as the body. In most southern households you will see dishes like collard greens, candied yams, fried chicken, and spare ribs almost nightly. In Florida food ranges from soul food to foods of the west indies, cuba, the Dominican republic and other island nations south of the U.S. This is evident when you look at the varying population of the State. Cajun food, the main cuisine of the state of Louisiana derives from the blending of French, indian, and carribean cuisines. People travel from around the world to Louisiana to taste such authentic foods like; Jambalaya, Gumbo, Boudin, and Shrimp and Grits just to name a few. In Chicago a long standing Cajun restaurtant named Heaven on Seven has been in business since 1985. The restaurant originally was a coffee shop opened by brothers Jimmy and George Bannos. Jimmy attended culinary school and later discovered the flavors of Louisiana. He later perfected his recipes and “Heaven on Seven” was born. The brothers have been and still are owners of this fine restaurant for 29 years now and located in the same place since it’s opening. Since then they have added two other locations one on Rush street in the Near North area of the city and the third location is in Naperville.
