There shouldn’t be specific texts that all students of high school English should read. The canon is list of specific books that counties command high school English students to read (Source A). There is no uniqueness and quality in that. If you look at the list of mandatory books, they are all the same (Source B). Most are in Victorian language, outdated, and always have some type of negative plot in it with a bad ending. There isn’t any diversity in the list.
