“I think the American Dream says that anything can happen if you work hard enough at it and are persistent, and have some ability. The sky is the limit to what you can build, and what can happen to you and your family.” –Sanford I. Weill. I think that The Younger Family made the right decision by not taking Linder’s money. I believe this because they stood up for their rights as Americans to live the ‘American Dream’, and they kept their self-worth by not taking the money. I think that within this play the Younger Family really showed that they have self-respect by. I think they showed this by, not taking the money. In the speech Walter gives to Mr. Linder he says “What I am telling you is that we called you over here to tell you that we are very proud… we have all thought about your offer And we have decided to move into our house because my father my father he earned it for us brick by brick.” This is significant because he is telling Mr. Linder that his family and he cannot be bought, that they have enough respect for themselves not to let someone tell them that they cannot live in a neighborhood because of their skin pigment. I think that the Youngers did the right thing when they declined Linder’s money. I believe this because they have a right to live in that neighborhood just as much as any other person, as long as they could afford it. I think that when mama bought the home in that neighborhood is because she is trying to create a better
