In today’s society, the idea or sense that prosperity is achieved through hard work and dedication to life has flourished into several new opportunities that prove this vision to be true, as numerous new jobs and careers are created constantly. This has been known as “The American Dream”, which has also involved several other theories, beliefs and accomplishments throughout the different minds of America. One idea following the American Dream may state that one's children should grow up and receive a good education and career without artificial barriers, while another states the idea that people should not be discriminated according to their class, caste, religion, race, or ethnicity. The American Dream can also help and support one’s spirit in success, and roots for them to acquire the highest demand not only in their occupation, but also in their life.
Curiously, the American Dream is quite prominent on the “American” part, as it is a national ethos of the patriotic country, and is looked at as a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success. However, the American Dream to me is like a task list, but with one’s utmost desire at the top, begging to be reached and accomplished in any ways possible. In my opinion, the “American” part of the American Dream is simply unnecessary, as I believe anyone in any part of the world can have their own supreme priority or dream to fulfill. This important task doesn’t necessarily have to be related to one’s profession, or religion, or anything in particular, merely because the only person who can manipulate the “American” Dream is themself. In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby’s American Dream, otherwise his most important and vital task, was to win Daisy’s love, and he was ready to fight anything in his path to win, including Daisy’s husband Tom Buchanan. Gatsby’s love for Daisy is continuously displayed throughout the story, as one example could be how he even decided to move to West Egg, New York, just so he could be near Daisy, to the point where he could see the luminous green light at the end of her dock across the water. Although I believe everyone has an American Dream, I also believe that some people don’t quite know what their final imperative dream is yet, including myself. When I was in 7th grade, my prime goal was to impress a girl I liked, and I would go out of my way to do so. As of this moment, I would say my most important and distressingly vital goal is to find out what major I would like to take in college, as well as figuring out what college I want to go to. While this may be my current and essential goal, I wouldn’t go to say that it is my mandatory American Dream, since I am still a teenager with a long and hopefully fortunate life ahead. In my opinion, I believe I will find out what my American Dream is sometime when I am in college, or after I graduate, and I will know what I want to accomplish in this world.
I believe that with the highest desire, the American Dream can be attainable. In my eyes, since the American Dream is the greatest aspiration, the person experiencing the American Dream will stop at nothing to achieve it. However, when consequences get in the way of truly completing the goal, the dream cannot be obtained. For example, as I was trying to impress the previously mentioned girl in 7th grade, she decided to go out with another boy, rendering my constant attempts to influence her useless. I eventually lost hope, and gave up entirely. Another example is seen in The Great Gatsby, as Tom Buchanan constantly rebuttled Gatsby’s attempt in winning over Daisy.
