Do you believe in gay marriage? Or what would you say if the government put a law against sex before marriage? We would all crowd the streets and protest waving banners saying “It’s my body, it’s my choice” So why aren’t we crowding the streets with those same banners for abortion. It’s the mother’s body, so shouldn’t it be her choice?
Abortion is when a mother has surgery to get the fetus removed from her. Abortion is often met with the right to life argument. The right to life argument states that anything living has the natural born right to live. The fetus doesn’t have a heart till 6 weeks into the pregnancy. Even after the 6 weeks and the fetus is considered alive, the “right to life” doesn’t imply a right to use somebody else’s body. People have the right to refuse to donate their organs, for example, even if doing so would save somebody else’s life. The right to life was created so no one else imposes there will on your body or life, doesn’t the mother have this right as well.
Many pro-life advocates usually like to use the argument that the women decided to have sex so it’s her fault if she’s pregnant and that abortion is a way to escape her responsibilities. That leads me to believe that many pro-life advocates are virgins or men. If you think getting an abortion is “avoiding responsibility,” that implies that it’s a woman’s responsibility to bear a child if she chooses to have sex. That sounds like you’re dictating what a woman’s role and purpose is, and a lot less like you’re making an argument about the life of a child. Also when having sex, even with a contraception, things can go wrong. Not all contraception works hundred percent of the time. And what if the women was raped. Which leads me to my next point.
“I’m okay with abortion if she was raped” many prolife advocated chime. Well what is the case when did the lives of a child conceived from rape less than those who were conceived willfully. Do those people know that there hypocrites or should we tell them? If there is laws against abortion than how can those rape victims get help. Those people are heartless cold and inconsiderate of the victims feeling if they want to ban abortion.
“Adoption is alternative to abortion”. It’s a prominent thought that comes to mind in the battle of abortion. Well, when saying those things it implies that abortion is to just get rid of the child so you don’t have to raise it.
