Abortion is defined as an operation or other intervention to end a pregnancy by removing an embryo or fetus from the womb. (Guttmacher)
Each year there are 1.3 million abortions worldwide, which equals out to
3.562 a day. (Giratikanon 1) 22% of all pregnancies in the United States end in abortion. White women ages 25-29 make up the largest group getting abortions, (Guttmacher), and while most people attribute abortions to lack of responsibility, 54% of women who obtained abortions used protection in the month that they became pregnant. This issue has become a hot topic in today’s society. One side of the argument uses religion and the risks associated with abortions as reasons to be pro-life. The other side of the argument uses Roe. Vs. Wade, the foster care system and the dangers and downsides of childbirth as a reason to support women having a choice.
Many people who support Pro-Life due to their religious views. They believe that we are all made in God’s image and by God’s will. They believe that having an abortion would not only be killing a child that was made in
God’s image but that it would be intervening in God’s will as well. Also, in the Christian religion, it is believed that once a child is conceived, it is alive and is a child of God.(SPUC) In the Bible, in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus and
John the Baptist meet while they are still in the womb. (SPUC) The Christian views on abortion are very clear in Psalm 139, “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.” (SPUC) Other religions have similar views on abortion as well. In the Quran, the book used in the Islamic religion, Chapter 6, Verse
151, it states “"Do not kill or take a human life which God has declared to be sacred.” (SPUC) The Torah, the book used in the Jewish religion states “A descendent of Noah who kills any human being, even a foetus in its mother's womb, is to be put to death.” In the Torah, however, it does state that an abortion is alright if the mother’s life is in danger. (SPUC) In Hinduism, abortions are referred to as “garha-batta” or womb-killing and in the Atharva
Veda it states that abortionists are the greatest sinners. Even some atheists are against abortion, although their reasons have nothing to do with religion.
Atheist who are Pro-Life believe that as soon as that child is conceived, it has rights as a human being and aborting that child is a violation of it’s human life. (SPUC) They believe that abortion is the murder of a human
being. (SPUC)
The dangers of abortion are another reason that a large amount of people are against it. Abortion deaths are the fifth leading cause of maternal death in the United States. (Abortion Risks) The leading cause of abortion deaths is hemorrhaging. (Abortion Risks) A large risk of abortion is cancer.
After a first trimester abortion, a woman’s risk of breast cancer doubles.
(Abortion Risks) A woman’s risk of cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and liver cancer increase as well. (Abortion Risks) Cervical lacerations happen in
2-3% of abortion patients which can cause problems with pregnancies in the future. (Abortion Risks) The most dangerous risk (besides death) associated with abortion is placenta previa, which can cause death for both the child and the mother. (Abortion Risks) Having an abortion can cause the placenta to abnormally develop in later pregnancies. This can cause many issues including prenatal death of the child, malformation of the fetus and excessive bleeding during labor. (Abortion Risks)
While there are a lot of people who are Pro-Choice, there are a lot of people who believe that the choice of having an abortion is the right of the woman and that it is
Cristian Castillo Period 5 Abortion Abortion should not be permitted. What abortion is, it pretty much terminates the pregnancy. Many women are not prepared for a baby and see this as an exit. Although one can be sympathetic when a woman becomes pregnant unexpectedly, having an abortion is not the right answer. This procedure was legalized in the 1973 Supreme Court cases of Roe vs. Wade, and Doe vs. Boston. On average 4,000 babies are killed by abortions each day, which comes out to about 1…
Research Paper Abortions Abortion has been a controversial subject in many societies through history because of the moral, ethical, practical, and political power issues that surround it. The discussion of abortion has been very debated issue since the Supreme Court case, Roe vs. Wade, in 1973. Since then this court case has divided the country into two sections, Pro- life advocates argue that abortions are just another form of murder and also severe levels of child abuse. Whereas pro- choice…
Adoption is a supportable alternative to abortion and accomplishes the same result. And with 1.5 million American families wanting to adopt a child, there is no such thing as an unwanted child. At the very first minute of conception a baby is alive; why would someone want to kill an innocent child? By getting an abortion serious risks can occur, the baby cannot make the decision of being conceived, it’s unfair for a baby not to get a chance to live. Everyone should get a chance to live. Ronald Reagan…

Jonathan Flores Legal Business Professor Aerenson Abortion Abortion is a major issue that many people in today’s society have gotten involved to either protest it or support it. Now it’s hard to determine which side is correct because there are many facts from both sides of this issue that make strong cases as to why it should or not be legal for women to do such a procedure. The debate over whether or not abortion should be a legal option continues to divide Americans long after the US Supreme…
Abortion has always been a controversial issue. Today abortion is legal although it hasn’t always been that way. Through mainly the efforts of physicians, the American Medical Association, and legislators, most of all abortions had been illegal by the 1900’s (U.S). In 1973 abortion was legalized in all 50 states due to the case of Roe v. Wade, but the abortion debate continues still to this day. I believe abortion should always remain legal. First reason is there are cases of rape where women end…
Marcus coca Rodney Clayton Sociology Tuesday, Thursday 10:30 121614 There are many things I could have written about for this paper. I was originally going to write about how every house hold should have a firearm, but I have a stronger opinion on abortion. I know it is not original but I have stronger sense of what I'm talking about. While everybody is divided on this particular subject, I'm no exception. I guess people would label me prochoice, but I'm not overly fond of labels that forces you to choose one side over the…
ABORTION By: Keshadia Carter English III 1st Block Mr.Ames "I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is "Abortion", because it is a war against the child... A direct killing of the innocent child, "Murder" by the mother herself... And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love... And we remind ourselves that love…
