Abortion in most cases should be illegal

Abortion is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion of the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to viability. An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is called a miscarriage, or it can be purposefully induced. The term abortion, most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy. In June 1969, Norma L. MCcorvey discovered that she was pregnant with her third child. She returned to Dallas TX where friends advised her to falsely assert that she had been raped, so she could attain a legal abortion. (Texas law at this time allowed abortion only in cases of rape or incest.)
However, the scheme failed, due to the fact that there was no police report of the alleged rape.
Eventually, she was referred to attorneys Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington. In 1970, Coffee and
Weddington filed suit in a U.S. District Court in Texas on behalf of McCorvey (under the alias Jane Roe).
The defendant in the case was Dallas County District Attorney Henry Wade, representing the State of
Texas. McCorvey was no longer claiming her pregnancy was the result of rape, and later acknowledged that she had lied about having been raped. The Court issued its decision on January 22, 1973, with a 7- to-2 majority vote in favor of Roe. The Court deemed abortion a fundamental right under the United
States Constitution, thereby subjecting all laws attempting to restrict it, to the standard of strict scrutiny. Norma McCorvey became a member of the pro-life movement in 1995; she now supports making abortion illegal. In 1998, she testified to Congress;
It was my pseudonym, Jane Roe, which had been used to create the "right" to abortion out of legal thin air. But Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee never told me that what I was signing would allow women to come up to me 15, 20 years later and say,
"Thank you for allowing me to have my five or six abortions. Without you, it wouldn't have been possible." Sarah never mentioned women using abortions as a form of birth control. We talked about truly desperate and needy women, not women already wearing maternity clothes. (Mccorvey)

Since the Supreme Court upheld the decision of Roe Vs Wade in 1973 an estimated 54,559,615 unborn children have been aborted in the United States. The Immediate side effects of abortion are pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, possible reaction to anesthetic or possible death. The short term side effects/risks associated with having an abortion are infection, heavy bleeding, retained tissue, puncture of the uterus, and/or sterility. A new report from researchers at a university in New Zealand indicates that more than 85% of women reported negative reactions to their abortions including sorrow, guilt, regret, grief, and disappointment. With the exception of the rare cases of women who are facing eminent death if they continue with their pregnancies, I must conclude from the obvious cons mentioned that abortion should be illegal.

In 2004, a structured survey was completed by 1,209 abortion patients at 11 large providers, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 38 women at four sites. Bivariate analyses examined differences in the reasons for abortion across subgroups, and multivariate logistic regression models assessed associations between respondent characteristics and reported reasons. The reasons most frequently cited were that having a child would interfere with a woman's education, work or ability to care for dependents (74%); that she could not afford a baby now (73%); and that she did not want to be a single mother or was having relationship problems (48%). Nearly four in 10 women said they had completed their childbearing, and almost one-third were not ready to have a child.
