What is abortion? Should women in America have the choice of abortion, or is this medical procedure an act of pure malevolence toward a human being? Being an American citizen holds many benefits, one in which citizens’ are granted the right to choose thanks to the Supreme Court case: Roe vs. Wade. People are free to practice any religion, have an opinion in social media, such as politics, and even wear whatever apparel desired. If this is the case, where the first amendment lays out the blueprint for these prerogatives, why is the subject on abortion still insoluble amongst eminent political parties? The answer is buried deep within ethics. The Republicans believe their stance on abortion is rooted in tradition, where as the Democratic approach is favorable in the hand’s of a woman. Will a fair decision ever be reached that meets the criteria of both parties, or does choice hurt more than it helps?
“I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of a mother,” stated by Mitt Romney, a Republican nominee for president. Aside from the few exceptions, Romney defies abortion as being legal. Most Republicans won’t even consider the health of the mother, per say, because the end result of this premature murder is still depriving the life of a human. The fourteenth amendment, which endows citizenship and rights, makes every individual equal and protected under the law. Although the fetus may be minuet in the instance of abortion, it is believed that the fourteenth amendment is being violated. Why shouldn’t that fetus have a right to life, if it was created to be on this earth in the first place? Where is the line drawn that renders the rights of a human in different stages or life, whether it is an embryo or an adult? While abortion is a cantankerous matter, life goes on with scenarios where people make mistakes and adversity occurs. Republicans rather subsidize programs to induce adoption and abstinence, instead of terminating the pregnancy. “The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing in between,” stated by Mother Teresa.
Democrats and President Obama argue that, abortion is completely the woman’s right, the government and politics have no right to infringe on the decision of the mother.
