Abortion A sophomore in college was knocked up; a story that isn’t all too uncommon. Her boyfriend bails, and wants nothing to do with her or the baby; another big surprise there. It’s better an egg today than a hen tomorrow, and taking care of the situation while you’re still able to would be much easier than the struggle it would cause otherwise. However, being brought up in a catholic home, the option to take care of things early on with an abortion was out of the question. The thought that she could have changed her path and moved on from her mistakes never even crossed her mind. Both her parents and her church had always taught her that that there was no way out. She spent the rest of her life working as many jobs as she could and living paycheck to paycheck in order to unsuccessfully attempt at supporting her child. It’s much better to deal with an issue while it is still small and manageable versus waiting for it to blow up into something bigger, like a child. You could spend your life struggling to take care of a child that you can’t afford, or you could avoid ruining both your life and a child’s life by just not having the child. Fortunately this process has been made quite simple thanks to the trial of Roe vs. Wade and the legalization of abortion.
Every day people are fighting with everything they have to undo the progress that was made by this trial by saying that abortion is murder. The catholic denomination believes that life begins at the moment of conception. However, there are many different bible verses that discuss life being given through breath. “…The Lord God… breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7). This challenges the idea that a fetus is living because it implies that life is given when the first breath is taken, and a baby doesn’t take its first breath until it is out of the mother’s womb.
