Abortion
Abortion is the deliberate act of terminating a pregnancy. The main issue on the subject of abortion is whether an unborn child is considered a human. There are two basics stances on the issue, pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-choice does not value human life and disregards the right of life to the unborn baby. Pro-life is Biblically sound; making it clear that life is precious and should be protected. Many churches claim to be pro-life and yet there are many in the congregation say that it is ok to have an abortion. But the Bible is clear and is not silent on the issue of abortion. In the Old Testament, fresh is the breath of life and people who follow that say that you are not alive till you have the breath of life. So the question is, do you have the breath of life when you have lung development which would be in the later trimester of the breath of life when you come out and you see a baby delivered. From a pro-choice stance, the woman has to consider the living being inside of her. If it is truly an individual and we respect that human beings are entitled to the right to life, then we should respect the most vulnerable section of our society, the unborn child. People who take a pro-choice stance believe that the women should have the right to do whatever she pleases with her own body, disregarding the fact that there is a human being inside of them. I will be looking into abortion from a Biblical point of view in the following paragraph. The Bible does not specifically mention the word “abortion”, but it has a number of significant things to say about unborn children. These Biblical statements indicate that the unborn are persons. Therefore, abortion is wrong since it is killing a human being. A simplified form of our argument is the following; it is wrong to murder a human, the unborn is a person, therefore it is wrong to murder the unborn. As we take a look a scripture, God is not indifferent to unborn children; He is intimately acquainted with them. In Psalm 139:13-16 King David acknowledges Gods handy work, “For you formed my inward parts; You knitted me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works and my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Your eyes have seen my unborn substance; and in Your book were all written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” So who is this “knitter” David talks about? The knitter is in fact God. Which means what’s happening in a women’s tummy is God’s work. God is essentially making a human being. This passage also shows that God knew us even before conception and His sovereign hand is in everything. Scripture leaves no doubt for the moral status of the unborn. God declared to Jeremiah in chapter 1 verse 5 that, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.” This passage demonstrates that the Bible uses personal pronouns to describe unborn children.
