Why correct writing and grammar in the NSA field is important.
Writing and grammar at first may not seem that important in an I.T. techs everyday business life, yet we would be wrong. In a business environment no matter what your job position or title is proper writing and grammar are a vital part of everyday communication. If you’re the computer repairman and you need to send out a companywide memo to warn against a virus or a computer threat, you do not want to sound as if you have no educational background Especially if you have not personal most of the individuals included on the email, they will have a bad first impression without actually meeting you.
Good writing skills are a key asset at every stage of your career, from the moment you write your very first cover letter and resume until your retirement party. This is especially true for administrative professionals who are responsible for a significant amount of written communication on a daily basis. You don’t have to be a published author or hold a degree in comparative literature to be a skilled writer. Sound written communication is advantageous for ambitious administrative professionals at all levels and across many levels within the computer world (Hosking, 2014, para. 1).
Whether we think about it or not, we communicate in writing every day. Every time you send an email or a text, you leave a statement on a social networking site or you initiate a corporate memo, you’re sending out impressions of who you are, what you do, and how you do in a traceable form. When communicating with a human resources person on the inside of a company you wish to work for or when communicating with an external executive recruiter for the first time, the written communication you choose to deliver first will serve as a first impression that can’t be taken back. Technology professionals frequently fail to understand the impact of their verbal communication. When sending an initial email to a recruiter for example, take the time to write in complete sentences and to check spelling and grammar. Be sure that the message you share presents a business case (Synder, 2012, para. 4).
Technology is a great and wonderful tool that all should learn, accept, and use daily to make our lives that much easier. With that said we need to not forget the basic of skills we learn and become reliant and complacent. Spelling and grammar is something that we need to know and not rely on our computers and phones to correct our spelling mistakes. Knowing where a period or a comma goes is something we learned in elementary school and should still remember. Let’s not be that generations that takes advantage of our reading and writing skills when many generations before did
