In this essay I hope to explain my understanding of what a worldview is and how specific beliefs that I have, have been shaped in regards to my education and learning. I strongly believe that the majority of the views and beliefs that I have developed, to do with education and learning and even beyond that realm, currently and in the future, have been because of my family and the upbringing I received and will inturn assist me in my education and learning.

Every person has a different way of perceiving and interpreting the world, the people that inhabit it and the events that transpire on it. According to Hobson, (1996, p.32) “a worldview is a set of beliefs that we hold and through which we organise our understanding of ourselves and
Both spent a lot of time letting me say what I wanted to and hearing my arguments or points out. This view in life has been, to an extent, penalised during my schooling, for expressing views that are not of the social norm or differ from that of the establishment can upset people, but the view stayed strong in me for I believed it was the ‘right’ belief to have. Expression, whether verbal or written, is fundamental in education as it allows us all to relate to each other. Feeling the freedom to express myself without fear of what others will do or think of me, has allowed me and will continue to allow me not to hold back my beliefs and views in essays, reading and learning. Robert Pullan as cited in Trager and Dickerson (1999. p,1) said, speech and writing expresses the self and when we are censored we are diminished.

That very self same belief about expression has also led me to refine my skill in argument and discussion. When my mother and I argued, it was expected that there would be a basis for the reasons both sides put forward. This principle has proven useful in high school as it was also expected there, that when a person argued a point that they had evidence to back that point up with. I believe that my future learning and education will also require evidence to back my points up with as well.
