What I’m going to do this morning is to talk about an analysis of working mothers
Over the last decade, there has been a significant increase of labor force particularly for woman and children
Moreover, there are more people working outside traditional Monday to Friday from 9 to 5 pattern
This can lead to affects on them and also their children
As you can see from the statistic from mental health foundation
“ many more woman report unhappiness than men”
My presentation will be divided into 4 parts
Firstly I will talk about changing in employment trends
Secondly I will talk about the impact on children development and social outcome
Next I will talk about well being of mother
Lastly Mrs. Obama on work life balance My presentation will last about 10 minutes
If you have any question I will be happy to answer in the end of presentation
Let’s begin with Changing employment trends
At the present time, most mothers in United States are employed
This is not true for mothers of school age children as it has been for two decade but it is also true for mothers of infants less than one year old
From the chart , it can be clearly seen that the steady rise in mother with children over the year is clearly illustrated as it is rare in 194o but become modal in 1996
Because there are few social changes so it has easy to document as the increase employment of mothers in United States
Let’s move on to the impact on children development and social outcome
Many of the studies that have compared the children of employed and non employed mothers on child outcome such as cognitive and children development have fail to find major difference
However, research from Michigan study found that reasonably consistent differences in relationship within subgroups base on social class and gender as following
1. Daughter of employ mother have been found to have their higher academic achievement and greater career success
2. Study of children in poverty in both two parents and single mother family found higher cognitive score for children with employ mother
3. A few earlier studies found that sons of employ mother show lower school performance and lower IQ score
4. Previous research has also found some social adjustment difference between children with employed and non-employed mother but with less consistency. Daughter of employed mother have been found to be more independent particularly in interaction with friend in a school.
5. There is one more result from previous research, which was also found in this study. Children of employ mother have less traditional gender role attitude such as men could do the female activities.
Move on to another topic well-being of mother
The second aspect of family life that is often seen as linking the mother’s employment status to effects on child is the mother sense of well-being
Numerous study found that employment show a positive health advantage.
Lower score on measure of depressive mood
Higher score on positive spirit
Let’s move on to the last topic Mrs.Obama on work life balance
As everyone knows she is the first lady of United States. She achieve success as a Chicago lawyer and having 2 girls, Sasha and Malia, who are now in
overall strategies of the business. As such, it limits the role of HR to a reactive, organizational function and under-emphasizes the importance of societal and other external factors. For example, it is difficult to see how the current concern for worklife balance could be integrated into this model. Fombrun et al identified four common HR processes performed in every organization: Selection: matching people to jobs Appraisal of performance Rewards: emphasizing the real importance of pay and other…
Halee Peterson IB448 Dr. Turgut Guvenli 24 September 2014 United States vs Denmark IIII INDIVIDUALISM The United States is one of the most individualistic cultures in the world and Denmark has a high score for this category as well. It is easy to start doing business with both Americans and Danes as they are good at interacting with…

2010 Corporate Responsibility Summary A Letter from Samuel J. Palmisano Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Of course, many people pay lip service to the importance of long-term thinking. But if you take it seriously— if you adopt it as a management philosophy— it leads to certain distinctive behaviors and choices. From the time of IBM’s founding 100 years ago, IBMers have taken a long-term view — thinking not in quarters, but in decades and beyond. This has shaped how we allocate…
