1. a. What components of the nervous system are involved in physical sensation? The components of the nervous system that are involved in physical sensation is the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The PNS is divided into the sensory and motor division. The sensory division is mostly involved with physical sensation because of all the efferent nerve fibers that run through the body into the brain and spine. The PNS conducts all the impulses from the sensory receptors throughout the entire body.

Explain the role of creatine phosphate, anaerobic respiration, and aerobic respiration in energy production for muscular contraction. The main function of ATP is to transfer energy from one location to another instead of storing the energy long term. The skeletal muscle fibers produce more ATP than needed while at reast. When at rest ATP transfers the energy into creatin. The energy transfer creates a high-energy compound called creatine phosphate. When a muscle works longer that 15 seconds, the supply of creatine phosphate is depleated. The next source of energy comes from glycolysis. Glycolysis breakes down the clucose to pyruvic acid inside the cytoplasm of the cell. That process is called an anaerobic process because it does not require energy. Clycolysis provides 2 ATP and generates 2 pyruvic acid molecules from each glucose molecule. In an aerobic process oxegen is required. It is needed when an activity last longer than 10 seconds. The muscles have 2 sources of oxygen. One is from when oxygen is diffused from the blood and the other comes from the oxygen that is released by myoglobin in the sarcoplasm.

CENTER FOR CASE STUDY TEACHING IN SC CE Wearing on Her Nerves: Exploring the Interrelation between the Nervous and Muscular Systems by Kathleen G. Brown, Nursing Department Sharon S. Ellerton, Biological Sciences and Geology Queensborough Community College, City University of New York Part I – Rise and Shine? Kathy, a 20-year-old woman, awakens one morning to a tingling, numb sensation covering both of her feet. This has happened to her a number of times throughout the year. In the…

First by being stimulated by a receptor in the skin, which goes to the sensory neurons and travel through afferent fibers, then through the spinal cord and finally to the brain. 2) The motor division. Motor impulses travel through efferent fibers. A motor neuron and all the muscle fibers connected to it. 3) Muscles…
Sydney is using operant conditioning, when she started wearing provocative clothing. Since she liked the attention it was giving her regardless of whether or not it was positive or negative she was still getting attention. Raoul is experiencing classical conditioning, he correlates the bad storms with losing power and by the way it sounds he is possibly afraid of the dark. After being left alone in the house for several hours he refuses to be left alone when he knows a storm is coming because he…
without a professional appearance. You should dress appropriately for the job in which you are applying. It would be unwise to be dressed in a suit for a job at McDonalds, like wise a shirt and jeans would be inadequate for a job at JP Morgan Chase. Wearing either style of dress at the inappropriate time could be seen as not taking the interview of the, respective, corporations seriously and one could easily misconstrue this as condescending. In the final analysis of this we find that all three play…
information.’’ The rest of the day was nerve-racking because, I didn’t know how bad the wreck was or how bad my sister was injured. I received a call later that evening from my mom she sounded really sad. She said,” Your sister was in a head on collision on the way back from her military training and she has to get reconstructive surgery done on her right knee and a rod put in her femur.” When I saw pictures of her car I didn’t know how she was still alive. Her car was smashed in on the driver’s side…
axons link parts of the brain to each other. When these axons get injured it interrupts how the brain regions communicate with one another. Most people with traumatic brain injury are unable to recall what happened. Nerves cannot repair themselves and you can’t grow new nerves. Certain areas of the brain may remain damaged, and their functions may end up being a challenge in the person’s life. Common causes of traumatic brain injury include: falls, vehicle-related collisions, violence such as…
in the same way that the majority of people hear. I have since learned that, “…cochlear implants do not restore normal hearing” (nidcd.nih.org). Instead, cochlear implants circumvent impaired parts of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve. While it takes time to learn how to hear via a cochlear implant, their recipients are then able to interpret speech without visual cues. Cochlear implants have also enabled children to acquire speech, language and improved social skills when partnered…
unclear there really is no specific way of preventing it. Taking precautions such as wearing a helmet in sports, always wearing a seatbelt in the car, are a great way to prevent head injuries and reduce the risk of Epilepsy. Treatment: Treatment involves either surgery or medication. Medication to prevent seizures, called anticonvulsants, may reduce the number of future seizures. Surgery to place a vagus nerve stimulator (VNS) may be recommended. This device is similar to a heart pacemaker. It…
illegitimate but no paperwork is required such as a social security numbers or driver’s license number to obtain a booth at a flea market. One individual that stood out to me the most, during my community service was a young boy. I did not have the nerve to approach him but I did notice him. If I had to guess I would have to say that this boy seemed to me to get a transsexual. “Transsexuals are people who feel they are one sex even though biologically they are another.” (Macionis 146) He must have…
away from people they dislike, is also a strong body language signal. 8 Orientation By this we mean the direction in which your body is facing. If you face the person who is speaking to you, you give the impression that you are listening to him/her. On the other hand, if you face away, then it looks as if you have no real interest in them. 9 Posture This is one of the clearest signs of a person's feelings or response. If you sit forward and look at the speaker, you are showing involvement…
