Jamar Jackson Worst chore ever Everyone gathers around a table waiting patiently to be served like newborns waiting to be breastfed. Faces are now very pleasant as the dishes are laid out on the dining table. Diner has been served and bellies filled, the nightmare begins. The kitchen sink is now filled with dirty dishes, grease, ungulable pieces of food, dirty pots and utensils ,such a disturbing sight to witness. What’s even more disturbing is that someone will have to wash those filthy plates , in this case the victim is me. Washing plates has to be the worst chore ever. Firstly, washing dishes takes too much time when doing it properly. I need forty-five minutes to wash plates properly. My mother, however, needs just needs about fifteen minutes when she rarely washes the plates. This is where the conflict begins. “ Jamar ! You are wasting water “ . “ I am just getting off the millions of germ’s mom” and it would go on and on. There are so many other important things I could have done with the forty five minutes , play basketball , watch smallville, continue uncompleted homework , sleep , a never ending list of things. There is a procedure that I follow when washing dishes. The first fifteen minutes is spent rinsing the grease from the dishes, the next fifteen minutes is spent soaping is the dishes, and the final fifteen is rinsing the soap from the dishes. Most people tend to skip the first step because they think that it’s a waste of water. My mother is a prime example, but what most people don’t understand is how miscible grease is with dish washing liquid. After washing a few greasy dishes the soap would be completely contaminated with whatever grease is being washed off. If one should smell the sponge after washing a few greasy dishes, you will smell the grease, not the sweet smell of the dish washing liquid that you should smell. This is why it’s hard for me to find a plate to eat from because I can’t help but think of all the bacteria and saliva still remaining on the plate after my mother washes them. Washing dishes is not healthy for your fingers. Each time a person washes the dishes, their fingers will get a little more damaged than before. I implore you to examine your fingers closely after doing the dishes and see if your hands are affected in any way. It only takes five minutes for your fingers to start changing. First the tip of your fingers gets extremely soft, and then the rest of your hand follows. As one washes the dishes your finger rubs on the sponge which results in tears on the tip of your fingers. Most people don’t notice the scars on their fingers until after the plates are washed. Factors that affect the severity of the tears include the temperature of the water and the time spent, the more you increase those two factors the more your fingers seems to age. The less plastic containers a person has in their home, the less stress the victim will encounter. DO NOT buy light color plastic containers, no white, no transparent. The moment you place something greasy in them, which will be the end of their beauty and a waste of one’s hard earned money. Firstly plastic containers are disturbingly retainable. Anything that goes in there, stays there. Not only does it retain the greasy feeling, it also retained the scent and color of whatever grease was in there. Want proof? Cook some curried chicken and store the meat in the white or transparent plastic, then store it in the fridge for one day, remove it from the container and wash it. It will leave a stained color in the plastic. Only washing it will bleach MIGHT bring the container back to normal. The only reason why I have two back plastic containers in my house is because they are good at retaining heat. Washing plates is a much too horrible chore for any one person to be assigned. It should be a group chore. My heart weeps for any person who has to wash plates day after day when other people are
