Vitamin B9

More commonly know as Folic Acid or Folate, it is a water-soluble vitamin that people normally consume from leafy greens or citrus fruits. However, it is not stored in the body so it needs to be constantly replenished through dietary intake. People tend to associate folic acid with women and pregnancy, but men need it too! Sure, folic acid can reduce the risk of neural tube defects and spina bifida. Women need to consume this nutrient properly however. From the ages fourteen to eighteen, women should be having the recommended daily value and from the age of nineteen increase the amount with the assumption of a pregnancy in the future. Consult a physician on how much to increase the folate intake. For everyone out there who thinks they do not want children or of course are men, you too still need your folic acid! Not consuming enough can lead to severe medical problems such as folate anemia. That is a decrease in your red blood cells. Folic acid is a nutrient that is required for building new cells, such as skin, hair, and nails. And it is required for making new DNA and RNA. So imagine if someone just decided not to take it! What is even less known is the impact folic acid has on the central nervous system. We have known the impact it has on pregnancy and the fetus, but as an adult? It has already been proven that a folic acid supplement enhances neurological recovery to the central nervous system if the spinal cord had been injured or even the brain. Nerve cell regeneration from spinach! People
