The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a brutal and very costly war. The U.S.A got in a fight to try and resist the spreading of communism. I believe the war was costly but the U.S.A did have good reasons for getting involved.

The decisive battle of the First Indochina War began in March 1954, when Viet Minh launched a surprise attack on a large French military base at Dien Bien Phu, in the mountains of northern Vietnam. They soon had the base surrounded. They soon had the base surrounded. By April, the more than 12,000 French soldiers at Dien Bien Phu might knock the French out of the war. In a news conference on April 7, Eisenhower warned that if Vietnam fell to communism, the rest of Southeast Asia would topple like a “row of dominos.” In July 1954 the French and Viet Minh moved north of that line, while the French withdrew to the south. Eisenhower gave the leader of South Korea 350 U.S. military advisors. South officers were incompetent and corrupt some went as far to sell weapons to Viet Kong. Dien began to lose the war and the respect of his people. Fighting Diem’s politics against Buddhist. Buddhist monks began lighting themselves on fire publicly. In November, a group of South Vietnamese generals staged a coup, with the tacit approval of U.S. officials. Diem was assassinated as he tried to flee Saigon.
Chapter 52 The war was so brutal because of the conditions of the enemies. They had underground tunnels that were extremely complex with things like first aid station storerooms with a weapon cache and false tunnels. The Vietnamese also strongly relied on forest cover which brought on the use of Agent Orange to take out forestry and food supply. Unlike the Us Soldiers the Viet Cong and NVA knew the land intimately and were skilled at concealing themselves in the dense tropical vegetation. America used a lot of fire to take out villages that fired upon encampments. There were as many as 1,200 GI deaths per month. The war began to be hated many protests came forth and even MLK
