Victor is the real monster

Victor is a man with many unfavorable qualities about him. Victor was the creator and father of the creature. Victor was a very self-centered man. Victor was the reason that the creature turned into a monster. Victor never wanted to take the blame for any of the actions that he took or the creature took. Although in the book the creature is made out to look like the monster, Victor is the real monster.

Victor was the whole reason the creature was created, and therefore was supposed to be his parental figure. After much work Victor created the creature. After the creature came to life, Victor was disgusted and abandoned the creature leaving him to fend for himself. The creature had to learn how to do everything by himself. It was like abandoning a baby. Victor showed the creature no love. Although the creature also learned on several occasions how humans could be bad people. The creature learned about what family and love are from observing the De Lacey family. Whenever the monster would try to get close to Victor, he would run away. At the end of the story Victor chases the monster in attempt to kill him. Victor never does anything a father should do for a child, even though he was the one who created him.

Victor was a very selfish man. When he was creating the monster he got so obsessed with science that he couldn’t give his attention to anything or anyone else. Even in his family’s time of need, Victor just couldn’t bear to visit home or switch his focus of attention. He shut out all his family and friends. He was very greedy for knowledge at any cost. Victor was even willing to dig up gravesite and take body parts from the dead. He also wanted fame for discovering a way of immortality. Once the creature wants revenge on Victor he abandons his family in the fear that the monster will attack him. He doesn’t want anyone to know about what he created in fear of people judging him. Victor couldn’t think of anyone but himself once he started to create the creature.

Victor drove the creature to kill and therefore become a monster. The creature found Victors journal only to find out the disgust Victor had for him. This finding allowed the creature to realize the extent of how alone he really was. He knew no one else was like him. This made him develop a hate for Victor. When the monster went to Victor and asked him to create a female just like him, Victor agreed. Only to change his mind half way through and destroy what he had made of the female creature. (Page 167, paragraph 4) “Begone! I do break my promise; never will I create another like yourself, equal in deformity and wickedness" This angered the creature knowing that his only chance of acceptance and love was just destroyed. (Page 144, paragraph 2) ”I am alone, and miserable; man will not associate with me, but one as deformed and horrible as myself would not
