Here at ____ the IT department is small, compared to the size of other departments within the company. So, to make things easier and quicker for the department, they save most of the installation applications of software on the network, within the IT network drive. This also minimizes the risk of downloading a virus as the application has already been scanned for malware.
However, if a piece of software is required and is not within the network drive, it may be downloaded from the internet. When downloading software from the internet, at ____ they only use manufacturer websites, this way they know that the application is safe and free from any malware or spyware.
Installing Software from the Network
.At _____, the IT department have their own drive on the internal network, the ‘I’ drive. Here is where important documents are stored as well as a separate folder for software applications. By saving the applications on the network, it makes access to the software quicker and easier for the person installing it. It is important that you remember that this drive is only available to people with in the IT department and to be able to install a piece of software, the administer password needs to be entered. This will be given to you at a later date. This adds an extra layer of security, so no normal user can download anything from the internet; this in turn minimizes the risk of anyone getting a virus.
The path to the folder where the software applications are stored is: \\I:\Software.

Installing Adobe Reader
The application for the Adobe Reader software is saved to the network for easy access, as this is regularly used to view PDF documents.
The path to the application is: \\I:\Software\AdobeReader11\AdbeRdr1000_en_US.
This is the application that will install Adobe Reader on to the machine that requires it. Remember that you will require the administrator password before
