1. Consider the events of the poem “Life Is Fine” (p. 316). Based on what happens, what is the overall TONE and MOOD of the poem? What specific words or phrases help you to determine the tone and mood? Remember to enclose in quotes any quoted text and add the page numbers in ( ). (15 points)
Tone: Was serious, can obviously tell there was pain and suffering and depression.
“I thought about my baby” (316)
Mood: Sad, depressing, lost, possibly suicidal. Also showed strength from fighting its self on whether to do so or not.
“I could have died for love”(317) “I might've sunk and died” “I took the elevator sixteen floors above the ground. I thought about my baby and thought I would jump down.” (316)

2. Think about the message or THEME in “The Weary Blues” (p. 318). How does the rhythm and repetition help to develop the theme? What specific words or phrases help you to determine the theme? Lose. I feel like the man who was singing had lost something, not that he died but that his happiness died along with what he lost. “I aint happy no mo' and I wish that I had died” (319) “He slept like a rock, or a man that's dead” When people get upset or sad, the majority, go into this deep sleep that they never want to wake up from because when they sleep they forget about what happened and what is causing them sadness. So something bad had happened that made him sing a song about not being happy.

3. Consider all the poems you read in this unit. Think about the IMAGERY that many of the poets used to depict freedom, equality, and stereotyping.
