This poster appeals to the target audience firstly through its use of picture which has used a camera angle which is tilted up towards the Transformer. This suggests that he is powerful and is something we should fear, and so should the people of the city his seems to be attacking. The background, behind the Transformer is of a destroyed city this brings out the genre of the film which is action, adventure and sci-fi as the buildings are on fire and in the sky you can see smoke as well as some alien aircraft. Some connotations and symbols within the poster rely on an audiences’ previous understanding to make sense of how they are presented and used within the poster. The uncertainty behind the picture creates enigma for the audience as they wonder why the Transformers are back causing chaos and destruction. This makes the audience ask questions therefore resulting in them wanting to see the film to get the answer.
The red shown on the Transformer connotes danger, war and blood as well as determination. The darkness of the red shows rage and anger with strength and power; this also gives us the impression that he is something to fear as he is a strong and powerful character.
There is a lot of black contained within the poster; this colour indicates power, death, evil, mystery. This also creates a sense of enigma from the aggressive colour scheme that has a negative connotation which contrasts well with some of the bright colours that are also used.
Another way in which the target audience are drawn in is through the use of star which is Shia LaBeouf, this is because it draws in many existing fans that would want to see the film with him in. As Shia LaBeouf is in the central foreground of the poster, this shows his high importance in the film and may also be a USP for the film. Also, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is featured slightly behind to the right of Shia in the poster; this means that she is not as important. However, she is a different girl that the last films, as it was Megan Fox, this fact may cause disruption and debates between fans.
