Timed Write The major and minor conflicts of a story will affect the plot and outcome of certain events.
Different types of conflict affect the story in different ways. This is demonstrated in Percy Bysshe
Shelley's Sonnet "Lift not the painted veil which those who live" and Lord of the flies by William
Golding. Each passage demonstrates an internal conflict within a character that will affect the outcome of the plot. In this passage from William Golding's "Lord of the flies" the character (Simon) is dealing with a deep internal conflict causing him to hallucinate. Simon is plagued with menacing thoughts about the group, Ralph's approval, and his friendship with piggy. As a result of this, his hallucinations are causing him great fear and making him face his troubles, "Well then,’ said the
Lord of the Flies, ‘you’d better run off and play with the others. They think you’re batty. You don’t want Ralph to think you’re batty, do you? You like Ralph a lot, don’t you? And Piggy and
Jack?'"(Golding). Therefore, Simons emotions and this conflict he has with himself will affect the plot of the story and the characters involved.
