I am a German air pilot in charge of one section of the new operation that we are trying today called Blitzkreig. It involved lots of planning as everything has to be timed perfectly and everything happens in a very short period of time. It started very early as we had to be in the air before the opposing French pilots for the operation to work effectively. I was in the centre of the action as our panzers were lined up along the border and the paratroopers got on board the plane. They played a main part in this plan and if they failed it would make everyone else’s jobs much harder. I had to rush around to check everything in my section was good to go and I boarded my fighter jet. I was terrified as if this part of the plan failed I would be held responsible for the deaths of the men, but I made sure not to show it as fear was not an option. I looked for the signal and when I saw it I took a breath and started my jet. We were headed to the East as that was where the French air force station was. We were nearly there when I heard the first explosion and in the distance I could see smoke rising from a town in the west. That was the first part of our plan, to cause panic. This is because panicked people do not think as well which will aid us. It was a sign though, that we needed to speed up before the French pilots could get organised. Finally we got to the planes. I breathed I sigh of relief when I saw that none were yet in the air. I gave the signal and my team split off into three sectors. The first, which included me, would go ahead and bomb the planes on the ground, this had to be done quickly so they had no chance to get in the air. The second sector’s job was to bomb the runway and the surrounding area so the planes had no way to get in the air and the third sector’s job was to circle the area in the air so they could stop any planes that did reach the air. I would describe it as an organised chaos as we knew exactly what to do, but with all the bombing there was smoke and rubble everywhere which made it very hard to see anything and I had to be very careful so I didn’t accidently hit one of my men. I flew higher to get a view above the rubble and I saw a French plane in the air shoot down one of my men. I did not know who it was but I felt anger towards the French plane for opposing us and our superior strength so I made my first fully aimed shot bomb and I shot him down. I realised we
