Acceleration Lab
Purpose
To represent the motion of a body, acceleration, in figures.
Materials
air table carbon paper paper strip metre stick 2-3 blocks or books
Procedure
1. Plug in the air compressor and spark timer of the air table.
2. Turn on the spark timer.
3. Set the spark timer on the air table to 50 ms or 0.050 s.
4. Place 2-3 books under the back leg of the air table to tilt the air table.
5. Place a paper strip on top of the carbon paper already taped to the air table.
6. Set the air puck on the paper strip at the elevated end of the paper strip.
(Note: The air puck must be held still to prevent multiple dots at the start.)
7. Press and hold the foot pedal switch on the air table.
8. Release the air puck to allow the air puck to slide down the paper strip, DO NOT PUSH THE AIR PUCK.
9. Release the foot pedal switch as the air puck leaves the paper strip.
10. Record the spark timer setting on the paper strip and remove the paper strip from the air table.
11. Turn off the spark time.
12. Unplug in the air compressor and spark timer of the air table.

Observation
Table 1. Position and Time Data for a 350 g object, initial state is rest, influenced by a constant force of 1.75 N.
