The Wayward Son
In the play The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, Tom is the youngest in a dysfunctional family. With a renegade father, and him being the only male left, he is forced to support his mother and older sister by himself. Tom soon grows tired of his mundane life and wishes to escape and live a life of adventure and excitement on his own. Some of the reasons he wants to escape is his over barring mother and his crippled sister Laura. Tom cause problems for the family before he leaves on his journey. While Tom was on his adventure he always felt haunted by the memory of his sister, showing that while a person can run away from his or her problems can always catch up.
Tom had a stagnant life; he woke up, went to work and came home to his nagging mother and and crippled, shy sister. Tom dreamed of having an exiting life, not necessarily a life of riches, but a life that deviates on a day to day basis. Day after day Tome has to come home from a horrible job, that only pays $65 a month, to a seemingly unappreciative mother, who has the nerve to tell him how selfish he is. His mother was always telling he was doing things wrong as well, going as far as saying “And chew--chew! Animals have secretions in their stomachs which enable them to digest food without mastication, but human beings are supposed to chew their food before they swallow it down.” (1654; scene 1). Not only is this inappropriate dinner conversation, she is comparing Tom to an animal. While his sister dose not make him angry per say, her refusal to get a job dose put an added strain to his already difficult life. Tom had all the motivation he needed to pack his bags and leave.
Before Tom left, he wanted to make sure he was not missed by his mother. To start, Tom brought home a suitor named Jim for his sister that already had a fiance. To add to this Tom did not pay the light bill, and it was almost as if he timed it with the dinner party his mother threw for Jim, because right in the middle of dinner the lights are turned off. Then after being thoroughly chewed out by his mother for bringing Jim to court Laura, even though he claims he knew nothing of Jim’s fiance, Tom leaves his family and starts his new life. Tom is finally free to do as
real life is tragic, etc. Selection Three: Carry on My Wayward Son (Lullaby) This, again, was a selection chosen for Dimmesdale, and while the song itself is powerful, I prefer the lullaby version to the regular version for this particular purpose, as it’s a good symbol for his fragility. Now this song really hits the nail on the head. He must continue with his life, and there will only be peace for him once it has ended. He’s sort of a wayward man, in his eyes, and he’s living in all this internal…
directly ties in with Shakespeare’s format of using prose as a language. Another example of prose in this portion of the play would be when Hecate was speaking towards Macbeth himself. “And, which is worse, all you have done Hath been but for a wayward son, Spiteful and wrathful, who, as others do, Loves for his own ends, not for you.” This quote is practically saying that Macbeth does not do anything for anybody but himself, and that he is spoiled. This is quite an obvious example of prose considering…

but they do not control Macbeth. Power over Macbeth existed in their limited ability to support an idea resides already in his head. Their role became clear when Hecate speaks to them, “And which is worse, all you have done Hath been but for a wayward son.” (Act III Scene 5) She suggests that they do not have the power to make him do the evil and the mischief that they want. Nor do they need that power. Macbeth proves fully capable of doing all the mischief and evil on his own though one can wonder…
A Mother’s Love Skip Minato co The meaning of being a mother is endless. A mother is a protector, a teacher, a friend and a mentor. A mother is a selfless, loving person who sacrifices many of her wants and needs for the wants and needs of her children. 1. Beauty is Meaningless A young man sees a sunset and, unable to understand or to express the emotion that it rouses in him, concludes that it must be the gateway to a world that lies beyond. It is difficult for any of us in moments of intense aesthetic experience to resist the suggestion that we are catching a glimpse of a light that shines down to us from a different realm of existence, different and, because the experience is intensely moving, in some way higher. And, though the gleams blind…
The Violent God Basic readings of various Old Testament texts can give rise to confusion as thenature of the Hebrew God. On the one hand, Yahweh is portrayed as a loving Father or Creator to the entire world. In contrast, He is also shown as a deity who actively directs acts of violence and destruction. The violence in the Bible is often graphic, brutal and grotesque. Although the Bible is not literally written by the hand of God, the writers of the text often depict God as commanding people…
