Solitude at its Best

Solitude or spending time alone necessarily helps those secluded to achieve their most important goals. Without solitude from the rest of the world a person would go insane and would never get anything done. Solidarity improves the mental state and creates a better person in us all. As Henry David Thoreau once said, “You think that I am impoverishing myself withdrawing from men, but in my solitude I have woven for myself a silken web or chrysalis, and, nymph-like, shall ere long bust forth a more perfect creature, fitted for a higher society.” Solitude clears the mind, helps people achieve their goals, and changes the perspective of those in solitude.
In my experience, solitude helps to clear the mind and refresh the thoughts and ideas of the people in solitude. About a week ago, I experienced solitude and the outcome of my seven hour-long seclusion led to new ideas and a cleared mind. Alone in my house, I decided to get my homework done and think of new ways to achieve my goal of getting into a prestigious college. I finished my homework quickly, which I never would have done surrounded by seven people and so many distractions, and thought about ways to impress colleges. Fortunately, I came up with many ideas, whereas I could not think of any ideas for weeks, surrounded by my family, friends and technology. Eventually, I will go through with the many ideas of volunteering and impressing colleges due to the few hours of seclusion from the world that led me to those ideas.
Henry David Thoreau purposefully secluded himself from any human interaction in order to achieve his goals. As a man, Thoreau secluded himself from the world and went to live off the land alone. Throughout his adventure he made scientific and historic discoveries and learned to think by himself without the urges and nudging of his friends and family. He learned how achieve his goals as a scientist and a person through his seclusion. Therefore, Thoreau proves that solitude does help people achieve their goals in life.
