According to a study in The Journal of the American Medical Association, recently, the obesity rate among adult Americans was estimated at 32.2% for men and 35.5% for women. Obesity seems to be the trend that everyone wants to leave behind regardless of the risk that they might encounter doing so. Obesity has been a contributing factor to approximately 100,000 – 400,000 deaths in the United States per year. This leads people to try almost anything to lose weight in this generation. Some of the most prevailing methods that have affected our society are: cosmetic surgeries, dieting pills, and some even develope an eating disorder, such as anorexia and bulimia.
To begin with, people in our generation will do anything to lose weight if they feel unfit to their standard. One of the most common methods that people have opted for to lose weight is to undergo a cosmetic surgeries. There are many cosmetic surgeries avaliable for weight loss. The first one I would like to mention is liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or liposculture. This procedure suctions fat out of the areas where the person feels over weight or that they have too much fat. This surgery is a risk because removing too much fat increases the probability of death. Another common surgery is the tummy tuck which is used to make the abdomen more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle of the abdominal Wall. The negative side effects of these procedures is the collection of fluid under the skin after the drains have been removed. A surgeon can aspirate the fluid with a needle, but it is going to cause a lot of pain and discomfort. In addition, the scars resulting from abdominoplasty and lipoplasty are long, brutal in appearance, and permanent. Some of the possible risks of abdominoplasty include, bleeding, fluid accumalation, skin loss, anesthesia complication, skin discoloration, and so on. Although these surgeries are extremely risky, many people still go to these extremes to attain their ideal weight.
Secondly, Although people believe that dieting pills are a good way to lose weight, they should first have knowledge about how to take them the proper way. people can not just take the pills they have to combine the pill with an appropiate diet and a proper exercise routine. Otherwise, the consequences can be dangerous to their health.’ One type of weight loss medication is an appetite suppressants called phentermine. The suppressant promotes weight loss by tricking the body into believing that it is full. They decrease appetite by increasing serotonin, a chemical that affects mood and appetite. They might seem like a harmless eay way to lose weight, however, it’s side effects include dizziness, headache and tiredness. Another type of prescription weight loss drug is a fat absorption inhibitor called Orlistat. It works by preventing the body from breaking down and absorbing the fat contain in each meal. This unabsorbed fat is eliminated in bowel movements. Overall the major risk of prescrption weight loss drugs is addiction . Addiction is the most common risk since people become tolerant to the medication. It is because of this that doctors are required to follow certain restrictions when prescribing them since they are addictive. Another concern is that most people suffer some unpleasent side effects, including; Increased heart rate and blood pressure, sweating, costipation, insomnia, headache ,anxiety, and dry mouth. To conclude, people

better. The legal drinking age has been 21 since the 1980’s, but that has not stopped teens and young adults from consuming alcohol. In the argument over whether to lower the legal drinking age from 21 to 18, three noteworthy questions involve how consumption of alcohol can higher or lower the fatality rate, it can help teach young adults to consume alcohol in moderation, and the effects of drinking towards adolescence. One argument that is examined is that having the drinking age where it is at now…
Research Narrative My topic is the legal drinking age. Specifically I am researching why the legal drinking ages should be lowered from 21 to 18 years old. I believe that this is a very important and interesting topic because the community that it affects the most is college students. I found that the article that related most to my topic was the first article by Carter…
The age that a citizen of the United States of America is considered an adult should be 18. Many rights and liberties that characterize adulthood are granted at this important milestone. To name a few: The right to vote and the ability to join the army. However, many other liberties are not accessible until the age of 21. I believe the age at which a citizen is considered an adult, and is permitted to partake in the all rights therein, should be 18. First, let’s examine the rights already available…

the U.S. Lower its Drinking Age? Among the policies and laws discussed on college campuses one that is rather popular to discuss is whether the U.S. should lower the legal drinking age. At one point in time the drinking age in most states was below 21. With the increase in traffic accidents, especially among young people, President Reagan signed the Highway Act of 1984 that said the federal government will take away highway money if the states do not raise their minimum age to 21. While many young…
