Throughout the 1820's & 1830's, President Andrew Jackson and the Jacksonian Democrats brought forth the idea that they were guardians of the Constitution and many aspects of the U.S. government. The Democrats had tried to defend what they thought was the right way to guard the
Constitution, individual liberty, equality of economic opportunity, and political democracy. During this era people supported Jackson's efforts to preserve their views and beliefs, and other did not. President
Jackson and the Jacksonian Democrats proved that they wanted to be guardians of the government, but in reality, showed short in key areas that they believed they were guarding.

The Jacksonian Democrats had perceived themselves as the defender of the frame of our government, The Constitution, and the base of our government the political democracy; or general public. However, Andrew Jackson and all of his followers did not take the public opinion when making crucial decisions like The Bank War. Andrew Jackson, in his veto message, said "flow from such concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people"(doc B). Basically, saying that there are a few men who are out there who only care for themselves. So being A. Jackson, he believed his opinion was enough so he vetoed the proposal. Daniel Webster, reply to Jackson's veto, said " It raises a cry that liberty is in danger..." (doc c). Webster refutes what Jackson says and calls it how it is; saying that Jackson is not taking to account what the people are saying and just acting upon his own selfish impulse. Also, Jackson acted upon his own philosophy that he was elected by the people so he is responsible for them. Age of the common man, kind of ironic, considering Jackson really didn’t listen to the common man. Political Democracy is a equal opportunity

for all man, politically. The majority were the whites and were viewed as more important than the rest of ethnic groups and females. Lastly, the spoils system, Jacksons way of paying his supporters back by giving them government jobs for their vote.

Individual Liberty, in the a perfect world is the belief that every man and every women were giving the equal rights and opportunity. However, this is not the case in the 1820's and 30's. Philip Hone, in The diary of Philip hone, describes the riots occurring between the whites and the Irish and blacks and whites (doc e). The Irish started a riot because of the racism placed upon them, with the NINA and little opportunity they had to advance like the white man. On the other side, the blacks were rioting because of the insubordinate laws placed before them and the discriminate acts towards colored people. This is a example of the lack of individual liberty. All the discrimination towards blacks and immigrants lead to riots because the government failed to give them equal rights. Also, Jackson's really did not touch the topic of slavery at all. He turned a blind eye on it. Now I don’t know about anybody else but im pretty to have individual liberty for everyone, slavery is topic you're going to have to touch. The trail of
