One of the most controversial topics in today’s society is the one on Gun control. Lee and Stingl states that “the term gun control as it is used in the United States refers to any action taken by the federal government or by state or local governments to regulate, through legislation, the sale, purchase, safety, and use of handguns and other types of firearms by individual citizens.” (Lee & Stingl, 2015, para 1). Staunch supporters of Gun control say that guns promote crimes and limiting the access will cause the deterioration of crime and violence. In a perfect world? Maybe. Most criminals purchased guns through informal swaps, on the black market, trades with a variety of individuals and other street sources. Enforcing gun control would create a potentially large source of criminal revenue for guns would actually increase crime rate. For it would make criminals lives safer and disarming victims would be easier. Former “republican candidate Carly Fiorina has made the claim that states with stringent gun control laws have the highest gun crime rates in the nation.” (Robertson, 2015 para 19.) Gun related violence goes down when civilians are legally able to carry guns. Since the early 1990’s right-to-carry laws have been on the rise in the USA and at the same time violent crime rates have decreased since there are about 300 million privately owned and registered firearms in the US with nearly a third of the population
