To be a great community oriented police chief they have to follow some rules. These rules are called the Ten Principles. These principles help the chief to be a successful one. If the chief follow these ten principles he will be a good chief. These ten principles are Leadership, Ombudsman, Policy Maker, Commitment, Style, Change, Power sharing, Educator, motivator and trainer, Role Model and last but not least a Disciplinarian. The chief has to have leadership because he is the head of the department. The chief makes all the rule and regulations. The officers look up to the chief if they need help or if they don’t know something. If a chief doesn’t have leadership how can he lead the officer into doing the right things for people and the communities? With the leadership role the chis must accept the role of ombudsman. The chief is required to work with multiple agencies and community groups that the police have to deal with during the planning the community policing. The police works with many other agencies. So the chief has to be on top of his game to consult with investigation of these other agencies. These agencies might file a complaint or anything and it’s up to the chief to investigate these actions filed against the departments. In order to run a good community oriented police some policy making has to be done. And who better to do it other than the chief. With policies the officers van do what they want.
