The Progressive Movement The Progressive Movement was a movement that came due to changes in society after the Civil War. The Progressive Movement is going to be talking social, political, and industrial conditions. The Progressive Movement was founded in 1912 by President Theodore Roosevelt. The Progressive was something that was getting things changed things that needed to be changed. It was a group of people that would make like a riot, to get things they want to see changed. “The result was a short-lived era of reform, in which social, political, and industrial conditions.”(Historical Context) The Progressive Movement was various forms of media, combined with organized protests, petitions, and the power to vote. The Progressive Movement was the best thing that the Americans had. The first reason is the social condition. The Progressive Movement had a lot of social condition; it was talking about the different rules, laws, and conditions. “Women in the laundries stand for 13 and 14 hours in the terrible steam and heat with their hands in hot starch, surely these women won’t lose any more of their beauty and charm by putting a ballot in the ballot box.”(Document 7) The quote is saying that women should have the right to work for all the things they be doing. Like, wash their clothes in the laundry room and be waiting 13 and 14 hours. “It would show itself to be fouler than the mud of the gutters. The new tenement, that have been recently built, have been usually as badly planned as the old, with dark and unhealthy room, often over wet cellars, where extreme overcrowding is permitted…”(Document 1) The quote is saying that the old tenement was old and they needed a new. A tenement was like an apartment and it was burnt and looked horrible, so they needed a new tenement. The new tenement that was getting built was not looking as good as they thought it would be. The new tenement had dark and unhealthy rooms, and wet cellars. The second reason is about political condition. The Progressive Movement had a lot of political conditions. “At last a vision has been (shown to) us of our life as a whole. We see the bad with the good…With this vision we approach new affairs. Ours duty is to cleanse, to reconsider, to restore, and to correct the evil… to purify and humanize every process of our common life…” Woodrow Wilson is saying that he’s trying to make the world a better place, better environment. Woodrow Wilson was just saying, the bad is going to turn into good things. He’s going to clean, to reconsider, to restore, to correct the evil. “The senates are like the business men slaves. The senate’s get paid, too. The business man works them, so they won’t lose money when someone gets elected to be governor or president.”(Document 8) Like, if they make a law, it won’t affect that business man or senate. That’s why, on document 8 the business man is over top/ over seeing what the senate is doing. The last reason is the industrial conditions. The
