Since we are in the 21st, technology is getting more complicated to understand, for the non-IT smart people. An easy alternative for data backup, the Cloud, helps out many small businesses. Most small businesses run Small Business Server. In my opinion there are a few disadvantages of using Cloud computing for Small Business Server, such as downtime, Security Issues, Cost, and Lack of Support. As long as the Cloud makes these non-IT smart businessmen lives easier, it will still exist in the future.
Small Business Server and the Cloud Across the world, there are thousands of small businesses. These small businesses need a type of server that will work specifically for their size. They also need a type of server that is easy to use, since most of the System Administrators of these businesses aren’t really technology-smart. That is where Small Business Server comes into play. Since we are in the 21st century, technology is getting more and more complicated for these businesses. Information Technology specialists are working everyday to make use of this technology simpler to use, hence of the creation of the cloud. What is the cloud, and how does it work? It is a place where you can store your data. It also offers a service which provides you with the latest software and updates. You are able to access everything that you put onto the cloud, including computer programs like online accounting and personal emails, as well as viewing documents and photos. You can do all of this from any computer and/or wireless device that you are using. You are able to put anything that you desire onto the cloud. In most instances, you only have to pay for the space that you need (Strickland, 2013). Even Google is said to be 90% on the cloud (Clapperton, 2013). In my opinion, there are many disadvantages of using Cloud Computing for running a small Business Server.
The Disadvantages of cloud computing
Downtime: When the cloud is being used, that leaves the small business server dependant on the cloud, so it needs internet connection 24/7. If the cloud is ever offline, your Small Business Server would be offline. To this day, even the best and most expensive cloud computing provider has outages every so often. There is always the possibility of downtime (Ward, 2013).
Security Issues: Security is one of the biggest priorities when dealing with computers/networks/servers. When a business is dealing with cloud computing, this means that they are using complete internet computing. Anything that you put on the internet is usually there forever. There is always the possibility of someone else accessing your personal/company files. In every instance, you can never 100% eliminate risk. If you have important enough files, you can guarantee that there is someone out there who wants to see those files. Even if your information is backed up onto the cloud, you should always back up your files on some sort of
