Uriel was observed on 10/18/13 in his math class. At the start of the observation, Uriel seemed on task as the class worked independently at their desks on “warm up” problems. Uriel sat facing the far wall from the door while Ms. Anderson lectured from the overhead located to Uriel’s right. Once Ms. Anderson began to go over the “warm up” answers, Uriel sat quietly jotting on his paper and was not engaged in the class discussion. Then a student sitting behind Uriel interrupted the class when he discovered a bug on his paper. The class became chatty and giggly; meanwhile, Uriel did not turn around to join the chat and giggles of his classmates. Uriel followed verbal directions. When asked to work with partners, Uriel willingly worked with another student. For the remaining part of the class, Uriel sat at his desk quietly, frequently looking down at his paper, not participating during class discussions, and occasionally looked up and turned to his right to face Ms. Anderson. Ms. Anderson commented that Uriel is a quiet student who has participated in class discussions.
