Technical strengths:
Tackling- Sam Warburton in the 40 minutes we watched he got 4 successful tackles and in one of them this stopped the other team from scoring a try, which benefited the team and is part of his job on the pitch as a forward. Although Warburton had one failed tackle this doesn’t compare to how he got 4 successful tackles, because the fail tackle was accidental and tackling needs to be his strength for his position.
Catching- He made 3 successful catches and had no failed catches in the 40 minutes. This could have been due to accurate passes made to Warburton and him being in the correct place to receive the ball. This is quite good because quite a few players on Warburton’s team were making silly mistakes and throwing the ball away so to not have any failed catches shows that he has good catching skills.
Technical Areas for improvement:
Scrums- I think that an area for Warburton to improve is his scrum technique because it is part of his position on the pitch as a flanker to make scrums successful for his teams to succeed and although Warburton was part of one successful scrum, in the 40 minutes he had 4 failed attempts at scrummaging which is an area for improvement both for Warburton’s individual performance and the teams. Warburton could improve his scrum technique on a scrum machine in training with his team so that he is able to practice his technique in the position he plays so that it would be more of an advantage in a game situation as he will have had practice. Using the scrum machine will improve his technique using resistance against him and making his team work and communicate more effectively both in training and in a game.
Tactical Strengths:
Rucking- Rucking was one of Warburton’s best successes in the 40 minutes because he managed to make 9 successful rucks which benefits the team as they gain possession of the ball which gives them more of a chance of scoring. Warburton was doing his job as a forward very well in the first half of the game as he gained possession of the ball for his team 9 times from rucking which contributed to Wales scoring three points.
Tackling- We watched out for both tactical and technical tackling
