Abstract
This assignment I will discuss child poverty from the “State of America's
Children® 2010 Report”. I found that poverty does not exclude anyone. Poverty hits every race, every country, anytime, it is a sad truth that negatively effects the lives of many children and families poverty continues to rise and it is now at an all time high. This also affects children’s behaviors dramatically, these children demonstrate negative behavioral problems, unstable emotional well-being, and lack social and educational well-being (Bullard, et al. 1997).
These children are less likely to read, have computers, books, quite places to study and a parent to help with homework, not to mention these children watch more television. These children are less likely to complete school. These children are more worried about their needs being met on a daily basis. The theory of development clearly states as Maslow put it, “children react to their needs”(Bilmes, 2004). If a child’s needs are not met, then the child’s mind focuses solely on that need”. An example of this is, “if a child is hungry, the child may not want to play or learn. They may be very irritable and fussy and possibly being disruptive and getting in trouble”. Children

are not able to control their impulses and become driven by their needs being met (Weil, 2007).

Children that live in poverty do not have the same opportunities to learn and develop important life skills. It often tends to be given to those of the upper and middle class. Children from the upper and middle class are more often raised with love and have had a very protected childhood (Miller, 2007). Children that come from economically struggling families live in need of their basic needs being met and often live in harsh and dangerous
